A Heap of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Festive Season

The Yuletide season present a wealth of pursuits much better than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to avoid snapping at relatives. It is wished you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy announcements emerged during the holidays, and if you overlooked some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (By 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a positive development. However, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season

Right after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not yet been announced.
